Laura Ellis

Singer, actress, and recording artist, Laura Ellis is known for her beautiful voice, her vintage vocal styling, and her sparkling stage presence. She embraces many musical styles – from the songs of sweethearts and sirens in American cinema, to the favorite tunes of early Rock and Roll. Singer Alan Paul from the Grammy-award winning ensemble, The Manhattan Transfer, says, “Laura Ellis has an exceptional talent. Her voice has a soothing warmth likened to an alto flute and a sensuality and intimacy in her performance that makes one feel like she is singing only to them.” Jazz Ambassador magazine states “Laura’s voice is amazing and harkens to mind the classic jazz greats of old.”

Born and raised in in the great jazz town of Kansas City, Laura Ellis now calls Los Angeles her home. She performed for 4 years in The Vintage Voice in Los Angeles, and toured nationally with “girl group” The Wonderelles. She is a frequent featured performer at the famed Noir City film festival in San Francisco and has been the Artist of the Week on Virginia radio station WMBG. She stars in several music productions, each created around beloved musical eras: Femme Fatale: Music, Movies, and Mayhem, with its Film Noir plot, Cinema Sweethearts, an ode to the (sweeter) singing stars of the silver screen, and Kit and the Kats – Remember when?, a romp through the early Rock and Roll days of 1958-63. In addition, Ms. Ellis performs an array of retro jazz concerts, including Jazz in the Shadows and In a Jazz Mood.

Her latest major project took her from the stage to the computer screen. Her voice is that of the beautiful, adventurous, Kat Knight, on the video game Contrast, by Compulsion Games, downloaded more than 1.5 million times since its December, 2013 release.

Her broadcast credits include History Channel’s Route 66 and Modern Marvels documentaries, the HBO Carnivale series, a commercial appearance with Della Reese, and ABC’s Modern Family.
