Laurie Cagno

Laurie Cagno, American-Italian singer songwriter, actress creative writer-author: Brief history, two CDs, new song demos, endorsements, reviews and interviews, collaborative musicians credits. Homage for past, present and future projects.

"Laurie, OMG! That song is BEAUTIFUL. And your singing is JUST as beautiful. If not MORE beautiful. Trust me. I had to honor and privilege to have played for Aretha, Roberta Flack, Judy Collins, Valerie Simpson and MORE GREAT songers. You take a back seat to NONE of them. You goose bumped me babe." - Keith Illidge Loving, January 2015 (Guitar player, composer, painter. ) ________________________________________________________________________________________________

My cousin Laurie has a voice that stops you in your tracks. She has that rare quality that makes you sit up and take notice and want to hear more. She possesses a sincerity that cuts right through all that sound-alike-top-40-wannabe-white-noise and reaches out with an urgency that proves she's the real thing. Whether she's singing rock, gospel, country, soul, folk or jazz (all genres which she commands with a natural grace) that voice takes you there. That's a gift you can only be born with, and what better way to give thanks for a gift than to share it with the world. Thank you Laurie! - Gregg Cagno, April 2015 (Musician)

We originally met in Las Vegas, Nevada at “Love All People gospel music academy“, and traveled across the USA for five years together. Then years later I received a surprise call from Laurie and we connected in northern NJ singing and collaborating on original music. I can tell you with pleasure that this songbird fills any room with inspiration and ideas that infuse the audience with energy, and freedom. She is an incredible talent. Her performance is commanding, powerful, warm and brilliant. I had the opportunity to work with Laurie again as a support vocal for her second CD “Dreams” Keep Asking To Dance.” I have enjoyed not only collaborating with her but embracing a lifelong friend.

Musicians make great observers of the human condition. Some tackle specific political issues and decry injustice. Others discuss their heroes or heroic acts. Some just look around, take in what they see and create art. That is what Laurie Cagno has done with “Think of This”. This is a very simple song, just a singer and piano. A very wise choice because it doesn't need anything else. She starts off like John Lennon reading the news. Like most of us it makes no sense. Her view expands to strangers in the streets, loneliness and other maladies we face. But this is no downer. It’s not preacher either. She simply implores us to Think of This, consider the alternatives and “together we rise and fall“. She does this with passion and a clear voice that makes the lyrics even more poignant. "Think of This" is not an anthem, but it is a very positive thought in a negative world, written and performed by Laurie Cagno with style and grace. It’s something we all need to keep in mind. - Mark Shultz, March 2015 (Mark Skin Radio)

There has been no other time in recent history that female recording artists have so completely captured the national airwaves with their inspiring soulful sounds. From perennial performers like Madonna, Janet Jackson, and Whitney Houston, to today’ s contemporary singers that include Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, Alanis Morrisette, Paul Cole, Natalie Impruglia and so many other woman who are truly making an impressive impact on the recording industry. Here on a regional level, Laurie Cagno is a local girl from NJ willing to follow where faith leads in her musical journey.

She talks easily about the dream that changed her life. She’s not claiming any mystical powers or any higher level of consciousness. She knows this story may even make people laugh. But she had this dream and her life hasn't been the same since.

“Years ago Laurie was feeling uncertain about her life, her decision to be a singer. Then there was a dream. “I saw angels” she says. “I flashed back to a lake where I grew up, and Jesus, came out of the lake, huge, bigger than life. He pointed to me and said “you the singer, will sing your songs all over the world”. A dream like that makes you pay attention. “It was a vision, and I claim that, says Cagno, apologetically. “It was cathartic”. It also sealed her conviction: she was meant to be a singer.

“I think I’m better at writing a song, expressing emotions much more easily than you can in a conversation, where defenses are up. That’s my responsibility to the audience-to be able to look them directly in their eyes, to put smiles on their faces, to give them hope.” Thus, her song “Hope Like An Angel” on her first CD Dancing Cantos.”

Laurie has a deep well of experience on and off stage, from local to global insights leading her way. This independent, home grown artist was born in Northern, NJ, and through many years of musical crafting, Laurie was Voted Best Female vocalist award in a Northern NJ music poll. This striking songstress is also street-smart. To help her deliver the goods, she enlists many talented friends; local musicians to back her up on her original recordings, and hits a homer her first time at bat! As a testament, so far her first cd “Dancing Cantos” has sold some 10,000 plus copies in the region. And 10,000 Cagno fans can’t be wrong.

With two critically acclaimed CD’s behind her and a fan base that keeps growing, the breath of fresh electric air that is Laurie Cagno is ready to rock your world & sing you to tears. Her first cd titled "Dancing Cantos" is full of sweet melodies and lyrics, featuring harmonious vocals, warm, strong drum rhythms, electric, lap steel, slide guitars, Hammond, acoustic guitars and violin. Her second CD is built on more acoustic electric rock and country roll “Dreams Keep Asking To Dance".

Laurie Cagno has a voice as soft as silk and as strong as steel. A gifted performer Laurie is a vocal powerhouse with an incredible dynamic range. Her energy is barely controlled and always contagious. Listen to this Songbird and before you realize what’s happening, the power of her music will weave its way into your heart and rejuvenate your body and spirit. Combined with Laurie’s poetic lyrics, the result is an almost mystical style that is difficult to pin down into one category. Her songs range from a powerful combination of musical tastes, closest to what I would identify as contemporary rock and country roll with a few tasty ballads scattered in for seasoning.

When it comes to singing like a bird, we’ll take Laurie Cagno any day. Her essence is like a drug-one of nature’s healing agents that alternately produces both tranquility and euphoria in the listener. Someone call a doctor! With a vocal delivery that cuts through it all, Laurie is one of those rare singer/songwriters who possesses the ability to stop time (or at least slow it to a crawl). Take a spin on "This Time", and you’ll find yourself gazing off into space, at peace with the world, forgetting, for the moment, whatever you were doing. The spiritual overtones in her songs speak of hope and forgiveness, despite whatever circumstances may have triggered them. They ring with a sincerity that is rare in music today, mainly because this Lady is a genuine spirit, reflecting that spirit. Yet another pleasant side effect is her remarkable ability to shift vocal gears from soothing to sultry, and the suggestiveness of "Sweet Rhythm" is enough to get any motor going. - Review in Music Head Magazine
