Laurie Scott

Laurie Scott is an Indian classical musician who plays the sarode, a 25-stringed instrument from India. The sarode is similar sounding to the sitar with a deeper resonance.

Laurie studied with one of India's most respected and recognized musicians, Ali Akbar Khan, for almost 25 years at the Ali Akbar College of Music in California. Ali Akbar Khan was nominated for Grammys, received a MacArthur Genius Grant, and was the recipient of a National Heritage Fellowship Award presented to him at the White House. After his passing, the President of India commemorated a postage stamp in his honor.

Before beginning her study of Indian classical music, Laurie lived in an ashram for seven years, four of which were spent living in India. While in India she developed a great love for its music, culture, and spirituality. She practices hatha yoga and meditation, and is a certified yoga and meditation teacher.

Laurie is also a writer and the author of the uplifting book, "A Spiritual Journey to Now," that shares engaging stories of her life and the lessons she has learned that can greatly enhance the quality of our lives. The book is filled with wisdom and humor, and has been enthusiastically received by its readers (available on Amazon).

Laurie loves nature's greenery, lakes, rivers, and oceans, and spending time with animals and good friends.
