Lines & Notes

Lines&Notes are:

Terrie Manno is a sensitive and passionate performer, known nationally and internationally for compelling piano performances that are fresh, inspired, and
engaging. She is also a dedicated teacher and scholar. Throughout her teaching career she has developed pedagogical strategies that give her students an edge as they master skills and competencies with confidence and assurance.

An artist with a broad scope and a keen desire to create and collaborate, she embarked on a new project in 2013 with English professor and spoken-word artist Kevin Zepper. The duo performs as Lines&Notes, a mash-up in which Kevin recites original poetry while Terrie plays original piano accompaniments that conjure images and create atmosphere, enhancing the mood and meaning of Kevin’s words.

As a soloist, Terrie specializes in new music and recital presentations that explore the correspondences between music and the arts. She also performs with pianist Michael Dean, DMA in the Manno-Dean Piano Duo. They maintain an active recital schedule in the United States and abroad.

A native of southern California, she is currently Professor of Piano at Minnesota State University Moorhead. She earned her undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance from California State University Fresno, and her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Arizona (Tucson). She is a student of the Alexander Technique, a proponent of musicians’ wellness, and a certified teacher of Lovenotes™ prenatal music.

Kevin Zepper is a professor of English at Minnesota State University Moorhead. He teaches a variety of writing and Humanities classes. Zepper is the author of book-length poetry collection, Moonman (Jule's Poetry Playhouse Press, New Mexico). Also, he has authored four chapbooks of poetry: The Fifth Ramone, (Suffering from) An Apartment Complex, I Bring you Dead Things and other Love Poems, and Sugartown.

Lines&Notes is a collaborative, creative effort with alchemical partner in crime, Professor Terrie Manno, Professor of Music, Minnesota State University Moorhead.
She has performed both nationally and internationally, offering both sensitive and dramatic performances of familiar and lesser-known piano work. A chance meeting between Manno and Zepper in a hallway at MSUM lead to their ongoing work these past few years.

When Zepper is not writing poetry, or collaborating with Manno, he is off somewhere taking photographs. Several of his pieces have appeared in online and/or small press publications. He has also acted in several student-based movie production and marketing productions through the MSUM campus.

An advocate for higher education, Zepper visits small grade schools in the region, his most recent being Wyndmere, North Dakota. He offers creative writing lessons and techniques as well as discussing the benefits of the Humanities. At MSUM, he has consistently taught in the College for Kids and Teens program, offering college level instruction to creative, ambitious young people.
