Lydia Clark

Lydia’s cool and unique style began at the age of five as she began her twelve years of private study in piano, organ, flute and voice, playing in symphonic, dance and marching bands through high school, and three years at the Santa Fe Conservatory of Music under the direction of Mark L. Davis (of Julliard School of Music). Beginning her professional career at the age of 15, performing in rock, jazz, country, blues, Dixieland, and gospel bands and musicals. She is most passionate about music that speaks from the heart to the heart, with message driven lyrics to move and inspire.

Her performances and recording career include the following artists: Lady, The Funktion, JB & the Nightflyers, TNT, Gangbusters, Chris Calloway & the Fly de High Orchestra, The Strange Tones, Bethleham & Eggs, Sweet Sister, Phil Brown & The Apaches from Paris, Soul Deacons, Hillary Smith & the Groove Tribe, Soul Static, USO tours, Lydia Clark and The Gospel Ryders and most recently "Lydia Clark & Soul Evolution" and "Two Be Announced" (her duet with long-time friend and songwriter Jeff Hett). She has directed bell choir, youth choir, served for four years as an accompanist and vocal coach for the National Dance Institute of New Mexico, Music Director for the Broadway Theatre Dance Workshop at the School for Performing Arts in Santa Fe, and a composer for the Santa Fe Opera school program (writing four childrens’ operas in 2009 and two in 2010). She has also participated and coordinated several benefits including “Outside/In”, Esperanza, concert for WWOZ public radio station in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, Toys for Tots, and the “Heart of Santa Fe” CD project benefiting Warehouse 21 (teen project in Santa Fe, NM). This CD took Best Local CD in 2010. Currently, she is the Director of Music at the Santa Fe Center for Spiritual Living; teaches piano at the Santa Fe Community College, accompanist and assistant vocal coach for Choir/Chamber Choir and voice classes at the Santa Fe Community College; accompanist with Santa Fe Public Schools; teaches piano and voice privately; and works with summer music camp programs.

She is a BMI recording artist and her 2010 Gospel CD won "Best Gospel Song" at the 2011 New Mexico Music Awards, her song "Bubbles" won "Best Children's Song" at the 2012 New Mexico Music Awards. Her most recent releases include a children's book collaboration with Kathy Walsh for which she wrote the songs for four of the books released for "Joy Oh Boy". She is working and will release two more CD's by December 2014, a children's CD and a "positive thought" compilation. Two more cd's are in process and will be released in 2015.
