Marcello Di Lorenzo

Marcello Di Lorenzo was born in Catania on August 30, 1968 at around 19:30.
He approached music at the age of twelve, through the acoustic guitar and the passion for hard rock, discovered in 1979 after watching the film Kiss Phantoms (1978).
His first performances as an electric guitarist and bass player (1982-1986) he made playing with cover bands dedicated to heavy metal and progressive: Prowlers (1982), Outbreak (1983) and Alaska (1986).
At the age of sixteen he wrote his first instrumental piece and in 1987 he formed a band (Ecce Homo) that played his own instrumental music.
From 1989 to 1993 he studied composition with the harpsichordist Enrico Dibennardo.
At the age of twenty he switched to the piano – which he learned to play by himself – and for several years his main musical activity was to perform in piano solo proposing his own compositions.
From 1996 to 1999 he put aside the piano and in April 1997 he took part – as a guitarist – in the recording of the CD From Hand To Mouth, with the band White Tornado.
In November 2007 he decided to play exclusively improvised music (ie he decided to “compose only through the performance”) and entered the collective/label Improvvisatore Involontario, directed by Francesco Cusa. With the latter he formed the War Duo, which in 2008 recorded the list La Commissione d’Ascolto (totally improvised music for piano and drums).
On July 11, 2010 he resigned from this collective.
On October 17, 2014 he decided to resume the composition and execution of his pieces…
In 2015 he lost interest in improvisation (if not as a private means of drawing out ideas) and for public performances and since then he has limited himself to composing, recording and putting music on the net…
