Mark Perko

He’s been mounding mountain mulch on the roots of a smiling tiki-trunked tune-filled tree that has many a grafted limb. His songs are earnest and honest as a campfire, silly as your delaminating boot soles and - if smoke truly follows beauty - his first release, “UFOs Bigfoot and Christmas” is smoke in your ears for sure.
No stranger to songwriting, Perko has been penning songs since he was an eighth grader in Mrs. Tingle’s Beginning Guitar class. Two years of classical guitar lessons led him straight to rock ‘n roll and a cover band, The Wedge. While achieving his Masters degree in painting he was all the while painting with sound as well. Years before the ukulele was hip (again) Perko built one, and was playing it for four years before 9/11 galvanized a group of fellow Oakland Museum employees who became known as the Ukuletion Orchestra. Perko also played host to many a boisterous jug jam prior to his pulling up stakes in the East Bay. Weary of the urban toll, Perko sought solace in a remote mountain location of the Trinity Alps of Northern California where he has set up shop and got down to the business of writing, recording and performing.
