Mary Vanhoozer

Mary Vanhoozer began piano at age five with her father, an amateur pianist and professional theologian. At age nine, she was admitted to St. Mary's School of Music, an independent specialist music school in Edinburgh, Scotland, which offers both music and academic education to musically gifted children. While living in Scotland she developed an enduring enthusiasm for folk music and learned to play the Scottish fiddle. "Songs of Day and Night" represents her own blending of Irish folk with the early music of Spain, France, and Germany which she studied in her music conservatory training. She has played recitals at prominent performance venues, including the Chicago Cultural Center, and has appeared as a soloist with the Lake Forest Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Wheaton College Symphony Orchestra. She has performed several concerts throughout the United States, as well as in Switzerland, Scotland, and France. Vanhoozer is committed to sharing beauty through the gift of classical music with her community. To that end, she has formed the Brahms Ghost Trio (Wendy Case, violin, Robert Nicholson, cello) with whom she performs multiple concerts each year, and she organizes and participates in various local concerts.

She has earned a BM from Wheaton College Conservatory, a MM from the Eastman School of Music, and a DMA from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Her music mentors are Peter Evans, Carol Honigberg, Dr. Daniel Paul Horn, Dr. Douglas Humpherys, and Dr. Daniel Shapiro.
