McKay Project

Columbus, MS is home for the McKay Project. The group is made up of the husband and wife duo, Dennis & Leslie McKay, and their daughter, Mary Katherine Reed. The McKay Project brings a mix of blues and country to southern gospel music while never forgetting the traditional style that so many have come to love.

Dennis is originally from Vernon, AL and grew up in a multi-talented musical family. Dennis began playing the guitar when he was 11 years old. He traveled all over the country for several years with his family group (The McKay Family) performing southern gospel music and sharing Jesus with others. Currently, Dennis has a recording/teaching studio in Columbus, MS – Studio 115A – where he instructs approximately 50 students a week on various stringed instruments including but not limited to acoustic guitar, bass guitar, electric guitar and mandolin.

Leslie McKay is originally from Damascus, AR and grew up singing in church while her father lead singing and her mother played piano. She began learning the piano at the age of 7 and later took up voice lessons which continued throughout college. Leslie spent 4 years with the Williams Singers of Williams Baptist College traveling to various churches in the southeast ministering through music. Her more recent endeavors include the acoustic guitar and bass guitar.

Mary Katherine Reed is from Columbus, MS where the McKay Project currently resides. She is a very talented young singer and promising songwriter that brings a great energy to the group. Mary Katherine is currently learning to play the acoustic guitar and percussion.

The McKay Project has a real desire to share the gospel and to let people know that God loves them and that He never gives up on us.
