Performing Artist (1960—present): composer, arranger, musical presentations. Through the years Michael joined any music scene he could as a reed player, composer and leader. He recently retired from a lifetime of work as a Jungian psychologist to concentrate all his energies on performing, composing, and promoting music. Moss formed the Accidental Orchestra in 2016, a 22 member renaissance jazz orchestra, which recorded two of his extended compositions, See Sharp or Be Flat/C# or Bb, and The Old One. Accidental Orchestra has been released in 2018, also on 4th Stream Records. His collaborative group, the New York Free Quartet, released Free Play (2015), and will shortly release In Between Gigs...CAN YOU DIG?! (2018) on 4th Stream Records. Moss released INTERVALS (4th Stream Records, ERG Publishing 2013), a CD of duets with guitarist Billy Stein. He appears on Natural (Mahaffay Music Archives, 2013) and constructed a sound palette on New York and Me with internationally acclaimed storyteller Regina Ress (ERG 2012). Moss is President of 4th Stream Records and ERG Publishing, past-President of Free Life Communication (a musician’s cooperative in NYC), and former Music Director of Loft in the Sky Jazz Festival in Lexington, NY. Moss has been the recipient of numerous Meet the Composer and NYSCA grants. His label, 4th Stream Records, has produced multiple LPs, cassettes, and CDs. Moss performed several times at the Bridge Theater in Catskill with various ensembles and at different venues in Catskill recently. He appears with the Accidental Orchestra, New York Free Quartet, Michael Moss / Billy Stein Duo, Michael Bisio, and has performed multiple times in the Club Helsinki Pro Jams where his blues roots take control.
