Michael Wooding

Michael Wooding — Singer / Songwriter / Guitarist

He was born in 1948 He was adopted right at birth and had 4 different last names by the age of 10.
His family moved from northern California to Southern California and back again.

They settled in Redding, CA. Mike went to Enterprise High where he played on the basketball, football and baseball teams. This is when he started playing guitar.

He went a few times to North Valley Baptist Church and that is where he would meet the love of his life —Jesus. Mike came to know the Lord when he was 17, and a senior in High School.

He became very involved at church. He performed solos, sang in the choir, worked at VBS and was on staff at camp.
After high school, Mike attended Shasta Junior College where he got his AA Degree in General Education; he was Valedictorian and earned the Top Male Student Award.

Mike moved to Southern California in 1967 to attend BIOLA University on an academic scholarship. He played on the basketball team. He made a lot of friends who would end up being very influential in his life. Mike also played on the Venture for Victory basketball Team. (A forerunner of Athletes in Action.) They went to several countries and played against Olympic and other teams.

While at Biola he also joined the Collegians choir, the Chorale and later was one of the founding members of the Christian folk rock group — The Other Side. Here is where he met a friend — who would help Mike with his guitar playing. They formed a "band" — The Mechanical Pickle.

As a member of the choir and Chorale — Mike toured several times from Seattle to Chicago and in between. They sang at the

St. Louis capital bldg. dome — a cappella. And were invited to sing at the Air Force Academy. While with The Other Side — they did some counseling — but were the main music for all the different camps at Hume Lake, CA. They also released a record

In 1971 Mike played in the Christmas parade at Disneyland — as a scarecrow on one of the floats. Years later his son would also march down Main Street with his high school band.

Mike graduated with his BA degree in 1970; His major was Social Science with minors in English and Vocal music. He then went to Talbot Seminary for 2 years.

He got his first job in sales at a door/window mfg. he stayed for 8 yrs. He left there to go back to school — Cal State Fullerton — to get his teaching credential.

He couldn't find a teaching position so he went to Europe and the Middle East for about a year. Just traveling and seeing the sights, he visited 21 countries; it was an incredible adventure for him. He came home with a lot of treasures and thousands of slides.

Mike's roommates went to a bible study and they brought him a few times, this is where he met Liesa They became good friends.

Neither had a very strong relationship with the Lord, both just coasting through " on feelings and emotions.

They were married in June of '84 and spent their honeymoon in Laguna Beach and at Disneyland. They have 2 children: Daron & Jena. Both are now in different types of ministry with their respective spouses.

The first 7 years of their marriage mostly consisted of constant fighting. Both came into this relationship expecting to change the other one into the ideal partner. THAT DIDN'T WORK!

Then each one looked for their own way out. THAT DIDN'T WORK! The last resort, which should have been the first choice, was to turn to God.

Jesus had changed their hearts towards each other. One definition of the word attitude is "the angle of approach" like when an airplane is landing. Attitudes are not something you are born with, they are learned and they can be changed.

When they both decided to make God the center of everything - all else fell into place.

Mike decided to go back into teaching in 1990. After several layoffs, he finally landed a job with La Unified School District in November of 1993.

In 2000 they started attending Morningstar (a Calvary Chapel) and Mike joined the worship team. This is also when Mike began writing songs. He loved playing music, leading worship, being part of the Christmas and Easter programs — but the best moment was Easter of 2006 when the Worship Pastor used the song "Third Day Rising" that Mike had written, for the worship team to sing during the service.

More recently; Mike retired from teaching and he and Liesa moved to Grass Valley where they started attending Gold Country Calvary Chapel. Mike has become part of the worship team and this led him to Robbi Spencer, of SE Studios, and an opportunity to finally put his music on CD's for others to enjoy.

Mike and Liesa would like to share something that they have learned during their life together; "When you come to the end of yourself, that's where God will begin His work in you. God changes lives — He changed ours! God restores and God heals!"
