Mike Greenleaf

Mike Greenleaf is a Seattle native singer-songwriter, now living in the Arizona desert, who has been writing and performing for over 40 years. Noted for songwriting that is heartfelt, thoughtful, sometimes humorous, very personal and influenced by a wide variety of musical styles. Songs that are genuine. Real songs about real life. Over the years Mike has developed an eclectic, personal, finger-style approach to the guitar, and his smooth, warm baritone voice has an easy, open, intimate style that speaks directly to the heart and allows a gentle spirit of hope and kindness to shine through.
Having grown up during the folk-revival in the early '60's, he was captivated early in life by artists like Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul, and Mary, Simon & Garfunkel, Bob Dylan and Steve Goodman. He first picked up a guitar at the age of 11, and has performed in a variety of musical incarnations. At the age of 19 he picked up the five string banjo. But, even while venturing out into and exploring performance in other musical genres like rock'n'roll, R & B, country and bluegrass, he never lost touch with his folk-music oriented roots.
He has become a gifted collector of songs, and his performance repertoire includes many songs by other songwriters, touching songs that have moved him either to laugh or to cry. He will often share a song by any one of his many songwriting role-models, folks like Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Steve Goodman, James Taylor, Louden Wainwright III, Dave Carter, Tom Waits, Steve Gillette, John Prine, Michael Peter Smith, Steve Kinzie, Hank Williams, Brian Bowers, David Roth, Randy Newman, Mark Knopfler and Leonard Cohen.
