Mike Marino & his Restless Soul

Mike Thomas Marino, a Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist. Insightful, Subtle and Explosive, his vintage brand Americana Rock drawls inspiration from the days growing up on a small South Jersey farm in the magical era of the 60’s & 70’s. His fire and intensity fueled by the constant erosion of the American Heartland.

His childhood farm is long gone by way of a housing development as much of the fabric of American culture has dissolved before him, including a Music Business in all but ruins. Now, in an age of Digital MP3 downloads in favor of Full Length Albums and FM Radio Stations that once allowed DJ’s to spin the best music, Marino is more determined then ever to pursue the style and quality of music he’s most passionate about. Hence his creation –“Vintage Rock for a New World”.

Though musically influenced initially by the British Invasion, Mike’s songwriting roots are firmly planted in the American Heartland. His journey through the roots of American music started with his love of the Blues and then migrated into the Folk/Country Influenced Rock of the California West Coast Sound. Notable influences include The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, The Flying Burrito Brothers, CSN&Y, The Eagles & The Band.

Mike drawls from all of these Blues, Folk & Country Rock influences to create his own blend of vintage flavored Americana Rock addressing issues of our time. He performs both Solo and assembles a full band compliment he calls his RestlessSoul. As a Singer/Songwriter, he gravitates somewhere between the styles of Gene Clark, Gram Parsons & Stephen Stills.

Throughout the 80’s & 90’s Mike wrote & recorded often while kicking around the Tri-State Music scene playing everything from Solo Folk with the Philadelphia Songwriters Association to Classic Rock gigs with various local bands and Blues with Nationally recognized Bluesman Mike Dugan & the Blues Mission.

Finally, in 2000 Marino released his Debut “Last of the Heartland”
Bryan Klausing – Assoc. Producer for Acoustic Rainbow (Poetman Records) wrote:
“This CD reminded me of The Band. The Vocals at times were reminiscent to the late/great Rick Danko & the Roots Rock instrumentation were great!”

Regarding his 2004 release “Another World” Indie Music Review wrote:
“Marino has successfully reinvented a sound that evaporated from the pop culture more then two decades ago. By combining elements of Acoustic Folk, Blues & Electric Rock, Marino revisits the sound and style of some of the best recorded music ever made.”

In 2007 – Mike’s third release “Out of the Darkness” , featuring an All Star line up from the Tri-State Region to back him, was called “An Americana Gem” by National Reviewer Keith “Muzikman” Hannaleck who awarded the album a 9 out of 10

As the positive feedback from Radio DJ’s flowed in from stations in the States & abroad Mike pitched songs to Industry Insiders via Foley Entertainment Consultants & Inter-Nationally Recognized A&R Taxi – Here’s what they had to say…

“Mike – I’m forwarding this material along, this stuff is great and as good as any Americana Artist I’ve heard in a long ass time!” Taxi Screener ID# 256

“The vocals & melodies have a nice country, folk-rock style comparable to The Byrds, Eagles etc. Love the arrangement, guitar chops and great lyrics!” Taxi Screener ID# 245

Ultimately, pitching songs landed a contract with the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp) for use of a clip of Mike’s song “Edge of Dawn” on Episode 10 of Revision Quest, CBC Radio One

This led Mike to Create RestlessSoul Records Publishing (ASCAP) in 2003 where he’s also had the pleasure to work with several talented Local & Regional Artists

Additional Highlights Include:

• Mike’s been a featured Artist as the Philly Pick on WXPN 88.5 FM Phila. – Helen Leicht Show

• A full review of Mike’s 2004 release “Another World” is included in Issue 21 of the UK publication Blues Matters – on the same page as Bluesman Gary Moore!

Mike’s “Vintage Rock for a New World” addressing issues of our current times reaffirms the role of the American Singer/Songwriter. His dedication to the Americana genre of music is unyielding. The combination of Blues, Folk-Inspired Rock, solid Songwriting and live delivery are the components of his success.
