Moey's Music Party

Melissa Levis is an award-winning children’s songwriter who created the character of Moey in 2005. Sporting her signature pink, sparkly dress, Moey is one of the most well-recognized and beloved performers among boys and girls in the eight-and-under-set in New York City. The New York Post dubbed her ‘The Pied Piper in Pink’ because her young fans faithfully follow her band, Moey’s Music Party, from gig to gig.

The band performs live concerts at venues including FAO Schwarz, Williamsburg Waterfront, The New York Public Library, 92Y Tribeca, Central Park, Gymboree, and almost anywhere children get together. Oriental Trading Company, the nation's largest distributor of party supplies, has sponsored Moey’s Music Party since 2008.

Moey’s Music Party’s third and most recent CD, PRINCESS REVOLUTION! (April 2012), is a rocking girl-power concept album which challenges the notion of the “passive princess” in classic fairy tales and celebrates every girl’s intelligence, confidence and sparkle. This Parents’ Choice Gold Award winning album empowers girls to see themselves as helpful heroines who can slay their own dragons. The 15 fun and feisty songs touch on subjects such as positive body image, gender roles, leadership and the importance of individuality. Kick off your glass slipper and join the Princess Revolution!

Moey’s Music Party’s Princess Revolution! tour included performances at the Tribeca Film Festival, New York Junior League, Brooklyn Public Library, Bloomingdale's NYC flagship store and other NYC venues. Bloomingdale’s featured a repeat performance as part of its Back to School 2012 promotional campaign.

PRINCESS REVOLUTION! builds on the success of Moey’s Music Party’s CD & DVD combination set entitled, HAPPILY EVER MOEY! A FAIRY TALE LARK IN CENTRAL PARK (July 2011), which was named a Top 10 Product at Toy Fair 2012 and earned a starred review from School Library Journal, as well as awards from Parents’ Choice, National Parenting Publications, Kid's First!, and Creative Child Magazine.

Moey’s Music Party’s self-titled debut CD (June 2007) was inspired by milestones in a child’s life between ages 1 and 5. The award-winning CD (Dr. Toy, Creative Child) extolls the virtues of getting dressed, listening to grown-ups, washing hair, going potty and other childhood joys. The playful and rocking tunes are universal to kids and parents everywhere.

Since 2007, Moey’s Music Party has been leading weekly music classes for young children and caregivers. Each class introduces musical instruments, songs, dances, phonics and musical story-time based on a party theme that follows the seasons and holidays, as well as perennial kid-friendly subjects like pirates, trains and princesses. The classes are offered year-round at multiple locations in New York City.

Melissa is an award-winning, Off-Broadway songwriter who discovered the joys of singing to children after the birth of her son. As Music Director of a New York City pre-school, she honed her skills by teaching over 300 children per week for nearly three years. Melissa has been profiled in the New York Times, New York Post, The Huffington Post, Time Out NY Kids and numerous other publications. New York Family magazine called her “Part Auntie Mame, part Mary Poppins, part Maria Von Trapp.” Her Off-Broadway family musical, "Moey Live – P is for Party," won critical raves. She was a recent panelist at Kindiefest, the national family music conference. Melissa graduated from Brown University and received an MFA from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She lives in New York City with her husband and son.
