Nikki O'Neill

Nikki O'Neill is a Los Angeles-based singer, guitar player and songwriter, deeply in love with soul music.

Her soul-influenced Americana sounds a bit like Imelda May hanging out with The Staples Singers in Al Green's kitchen.

She has released two singles this winter: the Americana-tinted ‘‘Where Luck Can Find Me’’ (where she plays a soulful and twangy lead guitar) and the rhythm & blues-seasoned breakup ballad, ‘‘When Do I Tell Him,’’ which she sang and recorded live.

She wrote both songs in collaboration with her lyric writing partner Paul Menser. The two met at a songwriting workshop in LA hosted by Louise Goffin (Menser lives in Idaho.) They wrote most of the songs on Nikki's 2017 EP, ‘‘Love Will Lead You Home.’’

As a guitarist, Nikki’s style is inspired by soul guitarists like Pops Staples and Teenie Hodge, plus Carlos Santana and Prince. Vocally, she has a sweet yet bluesy soprano, and her songwriting is fueled by soul, gospel, rock, colorful harmony and great melodies (her favorites include Jerry Ragovoy, Dan Penn, Paul McCartney, Burt Bacharach and even ABBA's Bjorn and Benny... she actually grew up in Sweden.)

Nikki has also been a contributing writer for Guitar Player magazine and she's the author of the e-book “Women’s Road to Rock Guitar” (Alfred Music – get it on iBooks).
