Nomad Planets

Nomad Planets is a Northwest Indiana based band that clearly enjoys making music together.

Their line-up originally found each other before, during and after the recording of “The Indestructible Drop” the band's first CD release in 1999. Guitarist/vocalist Mark Mybeck and bass player Phil Rapchak had previously played together in the artfully eclectic combo known as Whistling Jupiters. During the recording of the disc, they forged a creative connection with engineer and producer John Carpenter, who joined their lineup as a guitarist and vocalist after the album's release. In turn, Carpenter brought in drummer Drew Enselman, whom he had befriended during a stint in Chicago's alt-country band Urban Twang. Nomad Planets subsequently recorded and released “Edge of Time”, their sophomore disc, in 2005.

“You're Never Lost Until You Panic”, their third release, was produced by Carpenter at Thunderclap Recording Studio in Hammond. The disc features guest appearances by, among others, cellist Alison Chesley (Verbow/Poi Dog Pondering), violinist Inger Petersen Carle (Poi Dog Pondering), drummers Dan Massey (Robbie Fulks/Jon Langford) and Terry Boylan (Big Guitars From Memphis/EricLambert), fiddle player Ken Stone (Chicago Bluegrass Band) along with local musicians Walter Brach and Collin Magdziarz.

"Rise and Shine" is the fifth release of original music by Nomad Planets. While each of the veteran band’s previous recordings have been eclectic in nature, ‘Rise and Shine’ ups the ante by combining elements of rock, surf, reggae, funk, pop, and jazz to create a dynamic sound not confined to any specific music genre or style.

Although each song on “Rise and Shine” is stylistically different, the collection features a common energy that showcases the band’s creativity in a smart, understated manner. From the twang in the title track to the joyous, funk influenced “SPF” to the plaintive, soulful pleading on “(Tell Me That You’re) Missing Me” to the pure power pop of “Come On, Carolina”, the listener is treated to a production that allows for fresh sonic discoveries that satisfy more and more with each spin.

Nomad Planets is comprised of Mark Mybeck (vocals and guitar), Phil Rapchak (bass and vocals), John Carpenter (guitar and vocals) and Terry Boylan (drums). The band's stock in trade is texture, space and spontaneity. The fabled fire in the belly is no mere heartburn for this group - they have a passion for making quality, listenable music, and they are proud to share it with you.
