Paul TJ O'Neill
TOTALLY SWEPT AWAY - Stories of the Sea.

Paul was the drummer and lead singer from the band who used the name 'Iron Maiden' first. Now re-named :- 1970-1976 The Bolton Iron Maiden. He was the driving force behind the re-birth of the band, culminating in two albums, and a re-union concert in their home town of Bolton.

He has been a working musician/composer/music teacher since the demise of the band, caused by the death of guitarist Ian Boulton Smith in 1976, when the name was passed on to the worthy band from the metropolis. The Album 'Maiden Flight' released in 2006 has, and is still raising money for Cancer Research and MacMillian Nurses Cancer care, through outlets like CD Baby, Itunes. All profit from both albums 'Maiden Flight' and 'Boutlon Flies Again - The Covers' goes directly to the charities. ( visit www.theboltonironmaiden.com)

I the meantime - Paul has been making music alone, well.....using the good friends he has in his home town in Cambridgeshire, including Jamouriqui guitarist Rob Harris, Dave Clark Five guitar hero Lenny Davidson, West End Guitar magician Colin Medlock, keyboard whizz and jolly good bloke Don Airey, trumpeter Nick Hill, bassist Jeff Taylor, and singer Shelia Taylor, not to mention his three children Matt Rachael and Victoria adding their magic to the mix, and, because of the success of the Maiden Flight and Boutlon Flies Again albums, he thought he ought to get this thing "out there"

This - his first solo album "Totally Swept Away" has been a labour of love and developed over twenty years! Originally written in 1987, he has now digitised, and added to the songs.
Although the idea was that Paul would do the entire album himself - penning, singing and playing all the instruments at his disposal (which is a mighty number!) , instead, the album became a great collaboration with all his local musical friends. The Album was inspired by Pauls dad - John O'Neill, who related the story of the Birkenhead one day, and set Paul off on a voyage of writing songs about the Sea. Because of this, one or two tracks sort of became....well...sea shanty-ish, so many mates from the St.Neots Folk Club were also roped into the recordings.

One of the tracks - The Mayflower - was used as a TV advert for the paint company - Sadolin, another - the Loss of the Birkenhead won a prestigious Radio songwriting competition, two more were featured on an album of music inspired by his musical hero's - Gentle Giant.

It has taken so long to get everything together, he is now part way through the next album, working title - "Puppet Master". Puppet Master is nothing like Totally Swept Away, it is a hard rock piece, and rips along like the old (Bolton) Iron Maiden used to . Watch this space!!! visit www.paultjoneill.com for updates.

In the meantime, have a listen to this mini work of art -"Totally Swept Away" is something not to be missed by anyone who loves Rock and music that has soul and feeling.
Written and played right from the heart.
