At the moment Dutch altoist - composer - producer - bandleader Paul van Kemenade (1957) is working with his international quartet with Ray Anderson - Han Bennink - Ernst Glerum - Van Kemenade. He is playing frequently with the duo Stevko Busch-Van Kemenade; his band 'Three Horns And A Bass; his Dutch quintet with South African Feya Faku - Louis Mhlanga - Sydney Mnisi; the Podium Trio (Wolter Wierbos-Jan Kuiper-Van Kemenade) and Podium Trio on request with Jamaaladeen Tacuma & Cornell Rochester. Van Kemenade initiates lots of (inter)national projects and other projects at the moment are his collaboration with the renaissance vocal group Cappella Pratensis; his trio Kaisei with Japanese pianoplayer Aki Takase and drummer Han Bennink. He teaches workshops since 1979 and played on almost 60 cd's, several under own name. His cd 'Close Enough' has been reviewed with 5* by Downbeat and was chosen as one of 'best cd's of 2011'.Paul is artistic leader of the jazz-and impro festival Stranger than Paranoia since 1993.

In all the groups and projects, as well as in his compositions,Van Kemenade tries to blend elements from European improvised music, American jazz, African-, Spanish- and classical music, making all of this into a cocktail in its own right. Van Kemenade has been rewarded in 1999 with the 'Boy Edgar 'Prijs, Dutch oeuvre-award for jazz- and improvised musicians and received a Dutch Royal Decoration in 2007.
