Peggy Finston

I love music, especially the magic in writing music. I grab onto my high voltage moments, whatever they are, and the heavenly Mix Master from the Universe transforms this to a song that hopefully sings to others.

We all impact each other profoundly. While not made of bricks and mortar, our emotional community, for better or worse, shapes us. My “community” are my two grown children, their mates and four grandchildren, and a few cherished friends. Their presence and support renews me.

My “day job,” a psychiatrist.,( fuels my music. It’s emotional, also full of high voltage moments. I came to music late, discovered even later that it was not a hobby, a luxury or anything else superfluous. My music is my journaling and also serves as intention-setter, prayers, and goodbyes. Few events can touch as swiftly and deeply as a song that grasps and also enriches our being alive.

It took me a good chunk of life establishing a professional role. Later, I discovered roles can hinder, in its own way. My music is meant to reflect our struggle to discover who we are, if we incrementally can put aside the script of who we think we should be.

I feel fortunate to be part of this diverse group called “musicians.” Music is for everyone and is part of our Soul’s fuel. Soul has become an unappreciated entity, marginalized and dismissed. Songs can help us reclaim our right to become and celebrate our victories of rising above our world-weary egos. Songs can remind us we are so much more than what we see in the mirror and what we write on our resumes.
