Randy Black and the Heathcroppers

Randy Black writes songs and stories and lives in Cambridge, Ma. Early on he learned how to play the guitar in order to sing the words he'd written. He wrote a song when he was thirteen but you really don't want to hear it. He's been the leader of a few Boston area bands: Limbo Race, Dr. Black's Combo, Walking Wounded. Limbo Race was the band that made the most noise - sonically and in terms of popularity. Many younger bands claim Limbo Race was an influence on them, a reason they wanted to be musicians. Randy has taken long breaks in between musical projects and likes to say he has his finger on the pulse of the music business - alas, the middle finger. His last two records: "Below the Tapering" and "A Man Carrying A Bag" were released on Waterbug Records out of Illinois. "A Man Carrying A Bag" is more of a solo acoustic record while "Below the Tapering" is a band record made by the same core trio as made this new one: "the sky goes clear." Larry Dersch plays drums and Matt Gruenberg plays the bass. Randy does the guitars and the vocals and a bit of percussion.
As Edwin M. Steckevicz, Randy has published short stories in journals such as the Kenyon Review, Sou'wester Magazine and the Inman Review... The name Heathcroppers is taken from the novels of Thomas Hardy.
