Reggie Harris

I am a musician because it is the universal medium of connection. I was raised with music all around me and I am part of a legacy of African American music and history that I am committed to helping to keep alive. My music is informed by the traditions of African American spirituals, folk, gospel, rock and the music of civil and human rights, as such it is very much the "music of America."
I am a songwriter who writes from a personal sense of mission and my years of life experience to share my worldview, from a hopeful stance to encourage my listeners to makes the most of their efforts to spread light and to work for positive change in the world.
I tour internationally doing music as a solo and in several collaborations.
I am also a founding teaching artist in the John F Kennedy Center’s Changing Education Through the Arts program; a Woodrow Wilson Scholar and the Music Education Director for the Living Legacy Project. (a civil rights advocacy organization)
I have a passion for the music of the Underground Railroad and the Modern Civil Rights movement and I have performed for thousands in arts centers, festivals, schools, college symposiums and public concerts in the US, Canada and Europe.
I also lead songwriting, performance and education workshops recordings have recorded many CDs and teaching materials.
I am a student of music, history and race relations, and I try to use my gifts to create opportunities for building understanding, collaboration and hope around the world
In the spirit of my mentors, Pete Seeger and Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon, I am a song leader, a storyteller and an activist for global peace.
