Jose Pimentel is an extraordinarily innovative composer, weaving timings and rhythms into melodic and cinematic themes that have a unique listenability. His music is suitable for everything from the big screen to a car stereo to background music for a party. The music Jose writes tells a story without words. He composes for various media, including film, television, radio, internet, and gaming.

Born in Panama City, Panama, Jose Pimentel was influenced by music since his early years. Jose began drumming in grade school, which gave him his foundation of rhythms and timings. He later learned to play bass and guitar during high school. While growing up in Panama, Jose played with a few different bands throughout high school and for a few years afterwards, including the University of Panama Jazz Quartet.

When Jose moved to the United States in 1985, he focused his musical interests on the bass and drums and began to play in different churches and bands in the New Orleans, LA area.

In the late 1990’s into early 2000’s, Jose became more interested in playing bass and developing different sounds within a band. He played and traveled with Jesse Duplantis Ministries, an international ministry headquartered in New Orleans, LA. During this time, Jose studied with Bill Huntington, a bassist who has played with Aretha Franklin and Ellis Marsalis.

During the late 1990’s, Jose played in a blues band on Bourbon Street with renowned blues guitarist Landon Spradlin, who collaborated with musicians from Procol Harum, Tina Turner, and Eric Clapton. Jose also accompanied Landon to the Dallas Guitar Show in 1998 where they opened up for Kenny Wayne Sheppard and the Kentucky Headhunters.

Jose founded the jazz fusion band, Nishmah, in 2003, where he was the lead writer and bassist. Nishmah released its debut CD in 2004. Under Jose’s leadership, Nishmah was interviewed at New Orleans’ Jazz and Heritage Radio Station, WWOZ 90.7FM. Nishmah’s debut CD continues to be in rotation on WWOZ since 2005. Nishmah played for the Essence Festival in New Orleans and regularly at a few local clubs such Iggy’s, located in the Ninth Ward, and Dominic’s, located in the French Quarter on Carondolet St.

In the spring of 2006, Jose moved to Chicago and founded Nishmah Audio Digital Productions, a multi-faceted organization for commercial sound design. Through Nishmah Audio Digital Productions, Jose has produced two solo projects under the artist name of “Retrovati”. “Metalurgyka”. Metalurgyka is a progressive fusion album that takes the listener on a musical journey and "Mechanical Love" is a fusion of progressive, industrial, experimental and ethnic.

Currently, through Nishmah Audio Digital Productions, Jose is working on soundtracks for a few independent films and is producing an up and coming saxophonist who is endorsed by saxophone company Sax Dakota.
