Richard Valentine Tuttell

You’ve heard of the Queen of Soul and the King of Pop. Now meet the Administrative Assistant of Rockacanna.
“Rockacanna.” is as close as Richie Valentine can come to defining his musical genre, a compelling fusion of folk and rock influences.
Of his hundreds of songs, the performing songwriter is probably best known for “Aunt Ruthie’s Séance,” a comical tune about a woman desperate to contact her late husband to find out a secret he carried to the grave.
“I guess it’s my signature song, the one most people who have heard me remember and often request,” he notes.
Rocking since the late ’70s in venues ranging from the Orlando Naval Training Center to juvenile detention facilities (along with the obligatory appearances at Holiday Inn lounges), “Valentine” has mastered a variety of musical styles, many of which are reflected in his songwriting.
A native of New York who grew up in Central Florida, Valentine relocated in the early ’90s to the Foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Americana influences of the region are evident in several of his original songs.
He recently opened for songwriter Jon Ims (She’s in Love With the Boy) at the Down Home in Johnson City, Tenn. In addition to regular appearances at area cafes and coffee houses, he has performed on a variety of stages in Nashville and at the Bristol, Tenn. Roots and Rhythm Festival as part of the Boone Chapter of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI).
