Robert Rovina

A guitarist and composer Robert Rovina was born in Košice, Slovakia. He studied jazz guitar at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague, Czech Republic.

Robert was a co-founder of the "J.F.R" band and with this project he won The New Faces of Slovak Jazz competition in 2002. Besides the prize for the collective performance, he was also awarded another prize for the individual performance.

In 2004, he founded the Robert Rovina Trio in Košice and two years later, in 2006, his first self-composed CD Here I Am was released by Hevhetia Records. The track list of this CD included the song “Rainmaker”, which has become one of the most popular songs on live performances.

In 2008, Robert founded the Robert Rovina Group in Prague, which performs regularly in various Czech jazz clubs as well as on festivals across the country. In December 2011, the band recorded a CD named A New Day, which is about to be released by Hevhetia Records in early 2012. Similarly to Here I Am, A New Day consists solely of Robert’s original music.

Robert’s main influences are: The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Steve Lukather, Lee Ritenour, George Benson, Larry Carlton, Al Di Meola, Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, Rod Temperton abd Prince.
