Roger Ferguson

At age twelve, Roger began learning the guitar, mandolin, and fiddle from his father, and by fourteen, he was performing with professional acts throughout the Pacific Northwest. One such band, Rural Delivery, a band Roger formed back in 1977, is still a working band today!
Roger’s presence in the Northwest Bluegrass scene eventually lead to performances as a duo with the young Mark O’Connor. Roger and Mark grew up in the same area of Washington State, often playing the same festivals and fiddle shows. In 1976 they teamed up and performed for a while as a duo. Encouraged by Mark’s mom, Roger entered and won the 1979 National Flatpick Guitar Championship and placed in the semifinals on the mandolin.

Shortly after, Roger was recruited by The Shoppe, a Texas based Country/Show band. He toured nationally for two years as multi-instrumentalist (acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, and fiddle) regularly opening for Country music legends including Merle Haggard, Doug Kershaw, and Emmylou Harris.

Off the road, Roger settled back to the Pacific Northwest with his now former wife and partner, Lynne Ferguson, and formed the duo Double Stop. Double Stop was a popular Americana act featuring Roger on guitar, mandolin, fiddle and vocals and Lynne Ferguson on vocals and guitar. Roger continued to teach as Double Stop toured and performed locally for the next 20 years. Over this time Lynne and Roger raised five children, recorded seven cds (three in Nashville) and made over 2,000 appearances, including opening shows for legendary artist’s including Doc Watson, Taj Mahal and Emmylou Harris.

Roger has since been active playing and recording with various swing, and bluegrass groups in the Pacific Northwest acoustic music scene. A nationally recognized artist, born to play… Whether it’s fiddle, mandolin or guitar, Roger's lines drive through the rhythm, taking listeners right along with them.

Recent Bands: The Jangles, Cascade Mountain Boys, Me & the Boys, The Less Paulish Trio, The Shoppe.
