Roosevelt el Presidente de la Salsa

Roosevelt Cordova, also known as “El Presidente de la Salsa” has an old-school singing technique, a unique and creative freestyle giving him high notoriety; he is now considered by many as the best Sonero in Los Angeles. He was born 1972 in the city of Lima, Peru, grew up listening to many of the great salsa bands of those times. Learning from his grandmother the art of rhyming and quick thinking. His first exposure to the stage was at age of 17, participating in the production contest “Buscando un Sonero” (the search for the Next Sonero) in Lima, Peru obtaining the 3rd place among 126 participants. Shortly after Reynaldo Menacho asked Roosevelt’s father if he would allow Roosevelt to become part of his well-known group “Camaguey,” but his father refused the offer at the time because he thought he was too young to be exposed to the showbiz environment.
At the age of 25, Roosevelt made the decision to relocate to Los Angeles. The beginning of his singing career was with a Cuban band called Sonora Santiaguera in 1999. Soon after, he recorded a Criollo Music CD interpreting song from famous Peruvian artist. He continued to play with various bands in Los Angeles. In the year 2004, “El Presidente” participated in the 24th “Festival de la Canción Latino Americana” contest in San Francisco and won 1st Place. In May of 2005, he became the lead singer for the well-known Jonny Polanco y Su Conjunto Amistad band and performed at the 2007 Hollywood bowl’s Playboy Jazz Festival.
“El Presidente” has recorded songs for a few local bands in Los Angeles:

• Angel Lebron y Su Sabor Latino - “Primo”
• Guapacha - “Something Different” Live

Roosevelt has worked with major salsa artist such as: Cheo Feliciano, Michael Stuart, Frankie Vasquez, Herman Olivera, Yolanda Rivera, Tony Vega, Domingo Quinones, Marlon Hernandez, Lalo Rodriguez, Ray de la Paz, Jimmy Bosch, Frankie Morales, Ray Ruiz, Tito Nieves, Tito Puente Jr., and Prince. The experience of working with so many great artists has allowed him to become a well-known salsa singer in Los Angeles.
In 2018, “El Presidente” release his own project, a Bolero “Ejemplo De Valentia,” two Salsa Songs “Un Nuevo Cantante,” and “Lo Logre” three songs composed by him.
