Rough Age

The band wears its New Wave and punk influences proudly, even on acoustic tunes like gypsy-acoustic-pop puzzle “Al Jazeera”, which I hear often on KEPC.

The first thing you notice about Rough Age is their variety. They can’t seem to decide whether they’re rock or country, or a 2- or 3-piece. The drummer and bassist are actually garage-pop duo Wild Hares, Michael Salkind & Tracy Santa, moonlighting as a rhythm section. Rough Age consists of them plus Austin transplant Nathan Archer on guitar and vocals. Both bands play songs you could call country, alternative, surf, and punk. Conspicuously absent is technical guitar play- Rough Age seems to have absorbed a punk sensibility and injected it into Colorado’s alt-country scene.

Rough Age has resurrected classic sounds and used them to show us the world in an queer and entertaining light. Get a copy of their album from iTunes, or better yet, see them live at your local watering hole.
