Sara Kay

Sara has been performing and singing since she was old enough to walk. Throughout junior and senior high school, Sara took part in many theatre productions as well as being a part of a smokin' Dixieland jazz combo. During this time she traveled to Luther College to get professional training with her jazz instrument of choice: the clarinet.

After high school she attended Luther College where she switched from the Dixieland jazz combo to Luther's famous symphony orchestra. From here, Sara moved to the University of Iowa to attain a degree in theatre arts. It was during her time at Iowa where she changed from clarinet to vocals, and began singing with the university choir. She also appeared in and assisted in several theatre productions.

Throughout and after college, she was involved in environmentalism. Some of her songs combine her political advocacy with melodic inventions that make the music soar. While she stays away from partisan political banter, she does use music as a tool for greater social awareness that will hopefully lead to social change. She's a nature girl!

Sara has traveled to many countries around the world. Her longest stopover was in Norway, where she spent five months. It was here that her appreciation and passion for the natural world intensified. She also had a great time playing around on the hillsides and fjords with friends and moose.

Currently Sara uses her vocal, guitar, and piano skills in her songwriting and playing. There is something magical about a smooth, sultry voice that developed with good ol' fashioned hard work. She is performing original folk and jazz standards around the Midwest. She performs music as a solo artist and also sings with the The Sugar Daddys Jazz Band.

On a personal note, Sara loves to draw, paint, and make beaded jewelry. She also likes to hike, bike, and hang out with her growing family.
