Sara Marlowe

Sara Marlowe, MSW, RSW is a clinical social worker in both community-based and independent practice, where she incorporates mindfulness into her work with children, youth, families and individual adults. Sara first came to mindfulness as a participant in a Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) group for artists and has since continued her own mindfulness practice. She has attended numerous Mindfulness & Lovingkindness retreats - including Jon Kabat-Zinn and Saki Santorelli’s 7-Day “Professional Training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in Mind-Body Medicine” and Sharon Salzberg's "Lovingkindness for Scientists & Educators." She has also received training in sharing mindfulness with children with Dr. Amy Saltzman's "Still Quiet Place" training and the "Mindfulness and Yoga Teacher Training" offered by Daniel Rechtschaffen and Jennifer Cohen. Sara has a passion for narrative therapy, expressive arts and social justice, which she also integrates into her practice. She works in children’s mental health, and developed a curriculum for a mindfulness program for children and families, called “Mindfulness for Families.”

Sara offers workshops for clinicians and educators on ways to bring mindfulness to their work with children and families. She is a musician and uses music as a vehicle to teach mindfulness and relaxation to children.

Sara has recently written a children’s story about eating mindfully called, ‘No Ordinary Apple,’ which will be released in the Spring of 2013.

She is a also regular instructor at Ryerson University in Early Childhood Studies, where she teaches pre-service educators creative arts for children, how to bring therapeutic ideas into their classrooms, how to partner with families in such a way as to promote social justice.

As a new mother, Sara has a special appreciation for mindfulness practice and it’s fit for cultivating attunement with children and compassion for parents.
