Sharon Hanjian Rondeau

Sharon Hanjian Rondeau began studying the harp at the age of eight at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. She was a four-time winner at the United Irish Counties Association (UICA) "Feis" in the Bronx and won first place in the 1969 Junior Division of the American Harp Society national competition.

In 1975, Sharon was awarded a full scholarship to the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY to study with the renowned Eileen Malone. After some time away from the harp, Sharon began freelancing in New York and New England, to include performances for Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, and with the Connie Francis orchestra at the Mohegan Sun Casino.

In 1995, Sharon began playing with the Manchester Symphony Orchestra and Chorale (MSOC) and thereafter held the post of principal harpist through her retirement in December 2016. She was concurrently principal harpist of the New Britain Symphony Orchestra from 1998-2010, when the organization closed for several years. Sharon has also performed with the Hartford, Waterbury, Farmington Valley, and Ridgefield Symphony Orchestras during her 28-year performance career.

In the late 1980s, Sharon began arranging music for the harp not previously found in the repertoire and is currently notating new arrangements published at her website and at Her arrangements have been purchased by harpist in Canada, the US, Hong Kong, and the UK.
