Slumberjet is as a Dublin based Power Pop band led by vocalist and primary songwriter Barry O’Brien. Barry’s deep love for music is displayed in his craft and search for a perfect pop song in the classic sense.
Their first album Slumberjet {self titled} was produced by Keith Farrell of {Pugwash, Duckworth Lewis Method, Mundy} fame. Keith also played bass. Drummer Aidan O’Grady {Pugwash, The Pale,} completed Slumberjet line up mk 1.The album gathered praise from critics citing it as a rich blend of past and present power pop and rock influences drawing comparisons to Elvis Costello, The Beatles, Nirvana, Elliott Smith and Jason Falkner. The singles, The Strangest Game and Cut me out caught the attention of 2FM’s Dan Hegarty and {at the time}, Today FM’s Tom Dunne {to name but a few} who gave them regular spins on their shows. The album also made a lot of end of year best album lists including Power Popaholic’s blog who put Slumberjet’s debut in their top 5.
Slumberjet MK 2 consisted of Fergal Hendrick on bass and Eustace Merriman on drums. It was with this line up that Slumberjet got to play the Legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool as part of the International Pop Overthrow festival. After this line up dissolved Barry decided to continue Slumberjet primarily as a studio project and a vehicle for his songs performing solo while writing for the next Slumberjet album.

The soon to be released second album “World of Sound” was produced by Duncan Maitland. Who has previously worked with XTC, Colin Hare of The Hooneybus and Pugwash as well as being a solo artist in his own write. Also featuring on the album is Keith Farrell on bass duties this time. Drummer Johnny Boyle who has previously worked with Marianne Faithfull, The Frames and Pugwash {to name but a few}. One time Sub Pop artist Eric Matthews features on Brass once again.
Although Duncan had a strong presence on the first album “World of Sound” is very much a collaborative project between Duncan and Barry, While Barry provided the songs Duncan provided most of the instrumentation and sonic arrangements .
The album was mastered by Jason Mitchell of Loud Mastering in England whose recent clients include XTC, PJ Harvey and Massive Attack.
