Søndre Trondhjems Spellmannslag

SØNDRE TRONDHJEMS SPELLMANNSLAG, a cool, social, traditional music group from Norway, started in August 1994. The name derives from Søndre Trondhjems Amt, the name of Sør-Trøndelag county until 1918. This is where our repertoire originates from, the area south of Trondheim, central Norway, mainly from Gauldal, Budal, Singsås, Holtålen, Soknedal and Fosen, with a focus on pols. Pols is a very potent dance! We emphasize dance appeal in our music, and we arrange the music both traditionally and innovatively.

Fiddle is our main instrument, in addition accordion, diatonic accordion, flute, clarinet, Swedish keyed fiddle, pump organ, double bass and guitar. Our members come from many places in Norway, but we all gather in the music from Sør-Trøndelag.

We love playing, we work with documentation of local traditions and recruiting young musicians. Søndre Trondhjems Spellmannslag participates frequently in competitions, top achievements being no 3 in the Norwegian championship 2005 and winner of the local championship in Trøndelag 2004, 2005 and 2006. Our soloists and smaller groups also compete with good results. We have organized several local and national competitions and festivals.

Our album “Den E Grei, Ja…” won the Norwegian Folk Music Award 2006!
