The Bystanders

The Bystanders have been a staple in the Milwaukee music scene for many years, led by the
accomplished singer songwriter and unassuming Michael Henszey. Possibly best known for his
studio’s work with groups like Cheap Trick and Jerry Harrison of the Talking Heads in the early
90’s, Michael knows the music business inside and out.

In the Band’s latest release, Hanging On, Michael steps out to showcase his introspective and
personal songwriting style with five original songs. Producer John Sieger masterfully creates an
acoustic-guitar-driven sound that greatly compliments Henszey’s vocal talents. The result is five
songs easily heard next to John Meyer or Jason Mraz. Laying down the tracks are some of the
finest musicians in the area, with former Narada Artist Kostia on keyboards, John Wheeler on
bass, Joe Gorman on guitar, and Brad Eggers on drums. The powerful first single, I Found You,
was co-written with local talent and national recording artist Willy Porter.

Michael began singing at age four, sitting with his dad in the church choir. He remembers one of
the girls in his 6th grade music class saying, “He has a beautiful voice.” That was music to his ears
and he went on to front many bands while in high school in the Lake Country area and in college
at Arizona State University.

After college, Michael returned to Milwaukee to form a nationally-recognized recording studio
with his brothers, David and Dan. David went on to become an accomplished producer engineer
in Los Angeles, recording artists like George Clinton, Live, and Brandy. The Henszey brothers
reunited to work on Hanging On, with Dan recording and David mixing.

Fans have many chances to Hear Michael & The Bystanders this summer at Shank Hall,
Summerfest, Mo’s Irish Pub, Trinity Three Irish Pubs, Burke’s Lakeside and Zoo a la Carte.
