The Doug McFarland One

Doug sings and plays the guitar. And the bass. And the banjo. And the trumpet. And the kazoo. Out from the shadows of backing roles and co-lead roles, his debut album presents his wit (what there is of it) and wisdom (what remains of it) in an 11 song tour de force.

McFarland founded Bovine Love Child in 1991. Fortunately, there is little recorded material from this experiment. BLC teamed up with Soapstone and the Ice Man to form The Coalition in 1992. This hard-rocking trio took the notion of a garage band to unexpected depths of musicality. Their live shows were legendary for their visual extravagance and audio shortcomings. After some amount of college, The Coalition headed to the stage and studio in 1994 to explore their conceptual passion loosely based on the tax audit of a nameless penguin and his lair of choice, the pantry. The project received intense local support

After a much deserved hiatus, say 12 or so years, Doug emerged from his occasional four-track instrumental noodling sessions reinvigorated to brandish his instruments. Ready to once again light the flame of musical pursuits, more public... less private. He took a gig as bassist backing up Carolina duo Waterline and also found himself on a few select occasions backing up national songwriter of acclaim, Catesby Jones.

Never really expecting to be a singer-songwriter, rather some sort of ambient instrumentalist, the words and music started to come forth in the mid 2000's. With the 2010 release of Trite & True, he exposes his inner singer-songwriter for all to see and hear. Happy to take on nearly any subject, he hopes to keep on writing and recording well into his late thirties.
