Tim Snider

As long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a musician. Nothing makes me feel happier or more fulfilled than the effort that goes into making music, so I've dedicated my life to this pursuit.

Through the years, my idea of what kind of musician I would be has changed drastically. When I was 3 ½, I saw Itzhak Perlman playing the violin on Sesame Street and begged my mom for classical violin lessons. I knew at that time I wanted to be a classical violinist. As a teenager, I quit classical violin, picked up a guitar and was sure that I wanted to be in a rock-n-roll band. I saw Ben Harper for the first time during high school and was convinced I wanted to be a songwriter. As my horizons grew, I was introduced to flamenco music and chose to study in Granada, Spain with a musician friend. We lived on one meal a day so we could afford guitar lessons. I also traveled to Cuba with my band members to study Afro-Cuban rhythms and salsa music. I even went back to college and spent a year studying jazz and revisiting classical music, where I met friends I still play with today.

Some might view this as a flighty lifestyle, chasing from one thing to the next, but what I've learned is that passion threads it all into a cohesive path. I’ve always been attracted to and inspired by people who have real passion in whatever they do. In my life, I've done my best to follow my own passion wherever it takes me. It’s led me to tour most of the continental US, Hawaii, Canada and Europe. It's made it possible for me to study in various parts of the world. It’s allowed me to open shows for artists like Michael Franti and Spearhead, Robert Randolf and the Family Band, Steel Pulse and many more. It's put me on main stages at big festivals and in tiny coffee shops in front of five people. I will play for whoever will listen and go wherever I'm supposed to. This is my life. Music is my lens to understanding the world. It's the gift I've been given, and I feel blessed that this is how I get to spend the majority of my time and my focus. I want to share that with as many people as I can!
