Timothy Whitehead

An artist of many facets, American pianist Tim Whitehead is a graduate of The Eastman School, and twice a resident artist at The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada. He is in demand as a chamber musician, sharing the stage with founding members of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, principal members of the NY Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Toronto and Atlanta Symphonys, faculty members of The Juilliard and Eastman Schools, The New England Conservatory, and many world famous flutists, including Jasmine Choi, Paula Robison, and Gary Schocker. He is a laureate of the Academie de Musique de Lausanne, and has been presented in recital at the Holland Music Sessions. His piano is often heard on NPR, and has internationally been broadcast on the CBC's ZedTV and Radio Suisse Romande.

He worked closely with violinist Robert McDuffie and Mike Mills of R.E.M. in preparation for their international tour of Mike's Concerto for Violin and Rock Band. In 2010 he was named pianist in the modern music ensemble Sonic Generator, ensemble in residence at The Georgia Institute of Technology. As an orchestral musician he has appeared with the Atlanta Symphony, and was featured in the world premiere of choreographer Twyla Tharp's The Princess and the Goblin with the Atlanta Ballet. He's been a teaching artist at PointCounterpoint in Vermont, and has held staff piano positions at Bennington College and The Castleman Quartet Program at Bucknell University.

Mr. Whitehead's work as a recording artist can be heard on the Naxos, Azica, and Little Cottage labels. Mid-Cenutry Sonatas for Horn and Piano, a record featuring music of Hindemith, Heiden, and Stevens with NY Philharmonic acting Principal French Horn Richard Deane was released in December of 2017. Upcoming releases include a solo disc of Hindemith's Piano Sonatas as well as a complete cycle of Beethoven's cello sonatas with Brad Ritchie. As founder of The Paul Hindemith Project, he is currently in the process of creating a complete discography of Hindemith's instrumental sonatas with piano.
