Tom Syson

Tom Syson is a highly regarded trumpeter and composer based in the UK. In January 2019 he recorded his 2nd album, ‘Different Coloured Days’ at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, which he is touring around the UK in May 2019, supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. The album title is inspired by his experience with anxiety.

Featuring on the record and tour is Tom Barford (2017 Kenny Wheeler Prize Winner, Jazzwise - 'Future star of the UK Jazz Scene.') on tenor saxophone, David Ferris (2014 Mike Gibbs Prize Winner, Simon Spillett, Helen Mayhew JazzFm - 'One to watch.') on piano, Pete Hutchison (Dixie Strollers, Hofesh Shechter Company, Abandoman) on double bass and Jonathan Silk (Soweto Kinch, Meraki, Forj) on drums.

Tom’s debut album ‘Green’ was released in 2017, featuring JazzFm Vocalist of the Year 2016 Lauren Kinsella on a track, and was produced by long term mentor Percy Pursglove. 'Green' received a large amount of press coverage, which included a feature on BBC Radio 3's Jazz Now and substantial radio play on JazzFM. It also included some great reviews from leading jazz publications in the UK, including Jazzwise and London Jazz News.

Tom also has vast experience performing in larger ensembles, having held the lead trumpet chair in the European Radio Jazz Orchestra 2018, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Birmingham Jazz Orchestra, as well performing with the London Jazz Orchestra, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra and the Syd Lawrence Orchestra. He has performed at venues/events such as the BBC Proms at The Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scotts, the Barbican and Gibraltar International Jazz Festival.
