An internationally recognized expert on the roots of American show business, Chip Deffaa has written eight published books (including "Blue Rhythms" and "Jazz Veterans") and 16 published plays. Cast albums are available for nine of the shows that he has written and directed: "George M. Cohan Tonight!," "Irving Berlin's America," "One Night with Fanny Brice," "The Seven Little Foys," "The George M. Cohan Revue," "The Johnny Mercer Jamboree," "Presenting Fanny Brice," "George M. Cohan: In his Own Words," "Theater Boys." His shows have been performed everywhere from New York to London... from Edinburgh to Seoul.

Deffaa was educated at Princeton University. As an undergraduate, he was an editor of the Princeton "Tiger" Magazine; he is a trustee of the magazine today.

For 18 years, Deffaa wrote for the New York Post entertainment section--reviews and features, dealing with jazz, cabaret, theater. He's also written for many other publications, ranging from "Down Beat" to "Entertainment Weekly." He's written liner notes for albums by such Grammy-winning recording artists as Diane Schuur, Ruth Brown, Miles Davis, Tito Puente, Miles Davis, Ray Brown, and the Count Basie Orchestra.

Deffaa is a member of the Dramatists Guild, the Stage Directors & Choreographers Society, and the Drama Desk. He is represented by Peter Sawyer, President of the The Fifi Oscard Agency, NYC.
