Victims of the New Math

Victims of the New Math have been making music since their teenage years in the 1980's. The band, essentially a duo comprised of brothers Joe and Thomas Young, were inspired to learn guitar from what were considered "oldies" at the time - mid-60's to mid-70's AM radio rock and R&B hits. Never much for learning other people's songs, the brothers almost immediately tried their hand at writing. And, with a few small gaps, pretty much never stopped. Other diverse influences crept in- Joe's love of new wave, Tom Pretty, dance music, and the whole 50's and 60's easy listening genre; Thomas' passion for the Kinks, Donovan, the Flaming Lips, Guided By Voices, Neil Young and 90's lo-fi - giving the band a unique sound that never quite fits prescribed genres or styles. Combined with their very lo-fi home recording efforts and DIY to-the-core performances, Victims of the New Math deliver tight, vintage-sounding, riff driven rock and lush lo-fi melodies that sound both familiar and new at the same time.
