W.D. Neely

A native of Western Pennslyvania, W.D. Neely migrated to New York City to do his songwriting thing, where he joined with Liz Emmert, Bill Bly, and Deborah Griffin Bly to form the acoustic music group Left Field. Their whip-smart signature mix of frequently ironic or satirical original tunes and obscure covers garnered a cult following of hardcore fans who tailed Left Field to venues across the metropolitan NYC area.

Left Field produced two recordings – a live album, Left Field: Still A-Live!, and Extra Innings, a studio recording of original songs. Several of Neely’s tunes were recorded by Left Field for The Fast Folk Musical Magazine (FFMM), a monthly album of original songs produced by The Musicians’ Co-op in Greenwich Village. The band shared billing on these albums with such luminaries as Pete Seeger, Suzanne Vega, Christine Lavin and Lyle Lovett.

Neely’s latest studio effort, Ballads, Bromides and Broadsides: Songs by W.D. Neely with Liz Emmert and Bill Bly, brings you 14 fresh takes on the vicissitudes of modern life.
