Willis Earl Beal

Willis Earl Beal - A biography

Willis Earl Beal entered our world on a wave of intrigue due to his unbelievable story. Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, he made his way across America in search of the desert, eventually reaching Albuquerque. Desperately alone and sleeping rough, he kept himself company by singing late into the night. He eventually found work and got a place of his own where he set-up a cheap karaoke machine to record the thoughts, sketches and raw soundscapes that would become his debut album, "Acousmatic Sorcery." It left everyone wondering what he would do next.

His recently released album "Nobody knows." is the answer. While Beal recognizes "Acousmatic Sorcery"'s value, he always wanted to make an album as grandiose as the one that's been living in his imagination. Recorded "everywhere and nowhere," "Nobody knows." is that album.

While the album's heartfelt ballads, bluesy stompers and maddening dirges convey a range of emotions, you only have to work back from the album title to see there's something larger at play. "Nobody knows." is a soundtrack to Beal's Nobody ideology -- an image he has tattooed on his arm and an image he has worn across his chest during every stunning live performance.
