Album Notes
Diana Varela began her studies in classical singing at the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas in Mexico. In 2009, she entered the Université de Montréal in Canada where she studied under the tutelage of soprano Yolande Parent with pianist Pierre McLean as her accompanist/coach. Throughout her career in Montreal, Diana has continued to perfect her singing with accompaniment and coaching from renowned Canadian pianists such as Martin Dubé, Jeremie Pelletier, Robin Wheeler and Marie-Ève Scarfone.
In 2011, Diana joined the MiaSol string ensemble and interpreted classical and international songs in many concert halls in Montreal, including Jeunesses Musicales du Canada, the Montreal Conservatory of Music and the Gesu amphitheater.
In 2012, Diana performed in the summer program of the AEDO Netherlands Opera Studio in Amsterdam, where she sang the role of Amore in Monteverdi’s opera Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria, conducted by Gary Wedow with Timothy Nelson as stage director. In Mozart’s Magic Flute, conducted by Simone Luti, Diana interpreted the role of the First Spirit. She has taken classes with mezzo-soprano Sophie Roland and master classes with Alexander Olivier, director of the Vanamsterdam Conservatory, and has sung with pianist Peter Nilsson as accompanist and coach.
Diana Varela performs in the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Chorus, directed by Kent Nagano with Andrew Megill as choir director.
This summer of 2013, Diana Varela will sing in a number of festivals in Montreal, such as the Festival Duluth des arts and the Saint Jean Festival where she will interpreted Mexican and international songs and promoted her debut album that is now for sale and being played by some radio stations in Montreal, Canada.
