ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Ever since I was young, music has been a part of my life. My first instrument was a gift of a guitar from my parents, and then I moved onto the organ. At one point I even played a little on the drums, but my passion has always been singing. Early on I performed concerts for Girl Scouts, several outdoor shows, and even at a friend’s wedding. I recorded several tracks at a small country recording studio in the late 90's. This had been a lifelong dream which I could finally say I accomplished.

Life changes then bought me from Australia to the United States and my new friends encouraged me to take up singing once again. Now being a Long Haul Truck driver, I figured this would give me plenty of time to practice, so I thought… why not! My first project when I returned to the recording studio, this time in the United States, was to record three songs to be played at a friend’s memorial service. This was then followed that up with a Christmas album that was given out as a Christmas gift for friends. My music was becoming popular and friends wanted more and more!

In 2014 I was selected as a finalist in the Overdrive Magazine's "Trucker Talent Search" and following this opportunity I realized that my sights were now set on releasing songs outside of my circle of friends and go public. Patrick McGuire of Patrick McGuire Recording Inc. in Arlington Texas was not only instrumental in encouraging me to reach further, but he moved into full gear in choosing the musicians that would propel me to this higher level.

My first singles were released in 2014 with the help of Rocky Gribble on Electric and Acoustic Guitar, Lou Carfa on Bass, Josh Rogers on Drums and Andrew Frye on Piano. All played with incredible performances that just left me in awe. The phenomenal Milo Deering played numerous instruments (Guitar, Viola, Fiddle, Dobro, Banjo, Ukulele, Mandolin,) on this current album, but also Steel and Electric Guitars on previous singles.

This current recording also includes musicians, Ricky Moore on Piano and B3, Brent Dacus on Drums and Percussion, and Steve Harrison on Didgeridoo and Bouzouki. Backing up vocalists includes friends of mine, Dale and Tammy Burns, their daughter Kayla, my vocal instructor Andrea Wallace and on some tracks I also joined the team.

On this album, Patrick McGuire provided backing vocals on most songs, played Bass and I also had him playing the famous "Wobble Board" which you can hear on "Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport". His connections in the music world, together with his music talent and knowledge as an engineer/producer are just remarkable. It has been a true honor to work with him as it is to work with all of those included on this album.

A few years ago I became an American Citizen, thus becoming dual citizen with Australia; my country of birth. The album title became very fitting as I see both countries as my home, each one away from the other. I wished to celebrate and recognize these two countries and show how proud I am to be a citizen of both. This is the reason I chose the songs that are on the album. The first seven are songs that I was singing in Australia, then a transition to the USA with the Anthems, then finally the strong patriotic songs that I have come to love now living in the U.S.A.

I now hope you all enjoy the selection of songs I have put together on this album. Yes! I am still considered an "Aussie" but I also became "American" when I took citizenship in 2010. This album is a fun way for me to show the love I have for both countries and the reason why I call both my "Home Away From Home"
