ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Goes the melody
in stillness on a soft moon
staring into joy

A bird over head
looking into the future
sails a wooden boat

From a trail of leaves
where dreams were thought of in love
as seeds in the heart

Like a warm fire
in a misty winter night
playing my guitar

Upright in slow breath
where thought is silent wisdom
and the mind is love."

Poem by Jon Crocco.
Music composed and performed live by Jon Crocco.
All recording sessions at Studio Pulsar, Paris, France. 2017
Album Cover is an artistic interpretation of a public domain file from NASA.

A note about how to take advantage of these recordings.

The goal of this album is to sooth and relax your mind while keeping it extremely lucid and alert.
Each song begins with a mind-waking resonance followed by a generous decay into silence. One can take this moment for example to relax the breath and clear one's thoughts. When listening to the entire album repeatedly, this resonance provides a wonderful marker of closure and a new beginning to one's overall experience. Shuffle mode on repeat gives this album a wonderful sense of freshness and spontaneity.

A varity of song lengths were studied in a varity of situations including sessions of reading, walking, working, commuting, exercising and simple breathing and stretching sessions, meditation and musical accompaniment. Though at times a longer length was desired, a duration of 4 minutes and 11 seconds was chosen as a good average length as it's not too short yet not too long.

Each song generously fades in and fades out. Even though in certain situations a more abrupt beginning and ending was desired, a subtler approach keeps the overall listening experience peaceful.

I myself am a father of a baby boy and at the time of this release he will be arriving at 15 months. On numerous occasions I have used these recordings as background music and found both my son's concentration and my own hightened while at the same time calm, focused and peaceful. I have used these recordings as well in an elementary school setting and found that at low background volumes the complexity yet gentle sound of these songs engaged the children's focus without disrupting their individual study-work.

Beyond being an educational assistant, these recordings work tremendously well for the purposes of Yoga and cardiovascular activities. The repetition of soothing yet complex rhythms performed and recorded live creates the perfect subtlety needed for a profound yet peaceful "Silent Mind".

Teaching music has been my career for the past 14 years. Not only will I be using this recording with my own students but I have found them to be a wonderful personal practice companion. I invite other practicing musicians to give this album a try.

Lastly, if for nothing else, these wonderful songs evoke the rhythmic environment of an Ancient and Beautiful West Africa.
