April Delores Underwood

April Delores Nyreen (Underwood) grew up in Anchorage, Alaska, where she lives today. She comes from a large family, the oldest and only daughter of six children. In the midst of a loud but loving home, music awakened something in her when she was only four years old. Hearing songs by Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, The Winans, Keith Green and many others began the wooing of her from playing the violin to wanting to play the piano. Because of her interest in playing the piano, her parents allowed her to take piano lessons. April learned the piano playing classical music.

She wrote her first and only classical piece when she was thirteen. It was then she began to think songwriting and composition were something she might enjoy doing. Later, the opportunity came for her to develop her musical abilities when at fourteen she began playing the piano as lead musician at church where her Dad was the pastor. She maintained that position until she was twenty-two. But, at twenty-one, she began to really focus on songwriting and realized she really enjoyed this form of communication with God. For April, expressing her thoughts of love, adoration and worship for God was such a beautiful thing.

April finished college with a degree in Fine Arts (Emphasis in Music) when she was twenty-three. At that time she wasn’t sure what her next move should be or the direction she should go. Then, hardship with life situations came that changed her perspective of who and what God really is to her. In November of 2008 because of a rare sarcoma, April had a partial amputation of her left leg. This traumatic experience did not slow her down or hold her back in her fellowship with God. She continued writing. At every opportunity she expressed her desire to put the conversations with God she had compiled in different songs in a recording. Those conversations had taken place during the turbulent journey with her health. She desperately wanted to share her songs with others who are going through difficult times. Through it all she has been able to do just that because God is faithful.

In May of 2009, God opened a door for her to fly to Nashville, Tennessee, and record at the studio, "The Sound Kitchen", with Nick Coetzee as the producer. The result is April's first EP, "Conversations with God".

From this April says:
“Here I have put some of those conversations on an EP. I guess my purpose in sharing them is so others, who might not think it is possible, can see that an intimate fellowship with God is not only simple. But, it is the most indescribable experience to have daily regardless of any circumstance going on around you”.
