Shuga Shane

Chicago native Shuga Shane is a sultry R&B/Neo-Soul vocalist whose influences range from Lalah Hathaway, Jill Scott, Aretha Franklin, The Isley Brothers, Luther Vandross, Angie Stone, Brandy and Anita Baker. Born T’Changa Osideko, Shuga Shane had a very musical upbringing with two different cultural sounds. Her southern-raised mother, also a singer, introduced her to gospel and R&B music at an early age. Her father, a Nigerian native, introduced her to the African sounds of his hometown through the music of legendary Sunny Ade. Shuga began singing publicly in her church choir which then led to community choirs and small talents shows around town. Shuga attended Lincoln Park High School on Chicago’s north side majoring in vocal music, which helped broaden her vocal abilities in all genres of music.
With very little knowledge in music theory, Shuga’s mother briefly rehearsed vocal warm-ups and scales with her in the girls’ bathroom. That helped Shuga get accepted into one of Chicago’s top performance arts school, attending from 1999-2003. Shuga’s music teachers noted that she had a very unique tone that was like no other and she should use it to open doors of opportunity for herself. From there, Shuga has performed and sang background for some of Chicago’s hottest gospel and R&B artists. Shuga has sang background for R&B soul singer Calvin Richardson, performed the National Anthem for the WNBA Chicago Sky game broadcasted live on ESPN and recently released her new single entitled "Need Your Luv", and it's available on all download/streaming sites.
