Alek Vila

Alek Vila hopes to inspire more friendship, compassion, and connection through his music. His life adventures have included Hollywood filmmaking, international musical studies, and various relocations along the US West coast. He was raised the desert suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona and has lived in Los Angeles, CA; Melbourne, Australia; Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; and now Bellingham, WA.

Vila’s introduction to music began in the ’80s with music by INXS, The Cure, Peter Gabriel, Crowded House, Tears For Fears, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, and more. He recorded an all original album, Love In Color, in the summer of 1999 using gear originally assembled for film scoring. From that album, the song “Belief” was selected as one of the first 40 songs broadcast on XM Satellite Radio’s newly launched Unsigned Artists Channel. Alek studied jazz piano improvisation for a short time at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia, and his adventures down under inspired him to relocate to the Pacific Northwest.

Over a decade of musical examination passed between first and second albums, leading to a musical metamorphosis that includes transitioning from playing keys to guitar and a strong shift towards positive lyrics. An album Gratitude World was released in 2012. The single “Shine” was released in March of 2015, and the appropriately-titled single “Never Give Up (My Lost Soul)” was released in July of 2016.
