Armand St. Martin

Armand St. Martin is a 10th generation New Orleanian and grew up in his beloved city listening to the amazing music sounds all around him from dirges going by his grade school on the way to and from the cemetery, to street music, to club music, and everything in between.

He began playing professionally at age 16 in New Orleans clubs, being a tall kid and a virtuoso on guitar. However, his main instrument through his young adulthood and continuing is his New Orleans styled piano playing in the vein of James Booker, Tuts Washington, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley, Dr. John, Professor Longhair and many of the piano legends of New Orleans and Louisiana history.

Steeped in these various important Louisiana piano sounds, St. Martin eventually created his own brand of Louisiana music, The St. Martin Sound, that incorporates roots, jazz, rockabilly, Cajun, zydeco, rock n roll, blues, R&B, and other Louisiana music genres. His sound is fresh and unique, while having shades of these various music influences excitedly coloring his original compositions and songwriting.

Having been educated in music theory and mathematics at both Tulane and Loyola Universities in uptown New Orleans where he grew up and resides today, St. Martin also studied music for dance at the Wolftrap Academy for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and music for film scoring at U.C.L.A. in Los Angeles, California on an ASCAP Scholarship. His sizzling piano style has gained him the traditional title of Piano Professor. He performs 200 shows locally in the Big Easy since Katrina, most of them solo piano while singing songs and entertaining. However, since the 1980's, he has also performed and recorded with his all-original 7-piece New Orleans Rock n Roll band, Armand St. Martin and his Bayou Bohemians. In New Orleans, since 2010, St. Martin added into his music offerings, his traditional jazz group, Armand St. Martin's Maison C'est Bon Jazz Trio, as well as his 6-piece traditional jazz band, Armand St. Martin's Maison C'est Bon Jazz Orchestra, and his 4-piece roots rock group titled Armand St. Martin and his Bayou Bohemians of the Big Easy. St. Martin is married to Patty Lee who was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. Since their marriage, she has served as his manager/PR agent, and they co-produce all St. Martin's music projects together. They have released 3 CDs (ALLIGATOR BALL, SIZZLIN', KATRINA ANTHEM) and now 2 single-CDs (POTHOLES AND POLITICIANS, LAST TIME IN TEXAS) on their custom boutique label, Patty Lee Records. Lee graduated from The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in Journalism and RA-TV, where she was a FCC Licensed DJ at KVOF-AM and KTEP-FM radio. This newest single-song release, Last Time in Texas, by Armand St. Martin is a quirky, cheerful and upbeat Texas Blues tune with El Paso as part of the subject. He adds his New Orleans flavor to Texas Swing with this hit-song that is fast becoming a Texas radio staple as well as being enjoyed by anybody who loves to wear cowboy boots! - P.Lee, 2012
