Brian Baruch Shamash is a beloved Hazzan, an exceptional Shaliach Tzibbur, a gifted, compassionate teacher, and a beautiful, spiritual inspiration to so many. Employing his great knowledge of both authentic Sephardic and Ashkenazic music, Hazzan Shamash takes you on a compelling journey of Hebrew prayer, with a rich tapestry of musical styles and settings. His stunning voice illuminates the meaning and beauty of prayer, as he creates a bridge from ancient to contemporary settings of t’fillot. Hazzan Shamash has unique and original ways of finding the voice in each of us, and the energy and desire to communicate his pride and love of Jewish music and prayer to the entire world.

By incorporating middle-eastern hand percussion instruments, guitar and sign language in concert, and in the classroom, he helps our holy prayers come alive. With his inspiring beautiful music, he has become an integral part of many lives.

Hazzan Shamash bears a certificate of Hazzan-Minister with the Cantors Assembly and is also member of the Jewish Ministers Cantors Association. He proudly serves the Beth El Fairfield, Connecticut and it is evident that his passion for Jewish music, infuses their services with enthusiasm, vibrancy and beauty. Prior to coming to Beth El Fairfield the Hazzan served the South Huntington Jewish Center in Melville, New York, B'nai Torah Congregation in Boca Raton, Florida and Temple Israel of Greater Miami.

With an extensive musical background and constant desire to share these gifts with the greater community, Shamash excels as an energetic leader and conductor of vocal and instrumental ensembles. He also enjoys both composing and arranging music for schools, concerts, and services. As an accomplished recording artist, Shamash was recently featured on “The Spirit of Jewish World Music” and “The Spirit of Shalom” with CD distributions of over 75,000 copies.

He and his lovely wife Emily enjoy singing with their two beautiful daughters Ella and Maya. His congregation is privileged to enjoy their musical collaborations during Holiday Services. Most recently Shamash has dedicated himself to the proliferation and performance of melodies from his father’s homeland Baghdad, Iraq.

His debut album Shalom Aleichem features the Florida Light Orchestra, with conductor Andrew Kurtz, Thom Pizzi on piano, Emily Shamash and Galeet Dardashti on background vocals, Leanne Darling on viola, Eleanor Norton on cello, Lauren DeAlbert on percussion, produced by Harold Price and Ryan Streber.
