Dr. E

In the spirit of Dr. Maya Angelou, Dr. E, aka the Inspirational Soul Queen, is a multi-dimensional personality—Ohio State University scholar/author/speaker, performing artist, songwriter, and survivor. Dr. E has performed at over 300 universities, conferences, events, supper clubs and festivals nationwide.

As soulful songstress, Dr. E is backed by piano, bass, guitar, and drums, and is reminiscent of the tone and feel of Betty Wright and a Bluebelles-era Patti LaBelle. As a songwriter, she poetically delivers her own experiences in a genre-melding set of funk, soul, jazz, and r&b. She also covers famed vocalists, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Chaka Khan, Jill Scott, Nina Simone, to name a few. As a recording artist, Dr. E has two solo album projects to her credit--“Elevated,” her first full length CD effort, was nominated for a best new artist award in 2010. “Songs for the Struggle,” her current CD project, was released in 2017. Pittsburgh’s “The Soul Show” of, an npr-affiliated station, named Dr. E’s “Songs for the Struggle” as one of the top 10 albums of 2017.

Dr. E’s music is also played on international online soul music shows. As an artist and advocate, Dr. E engages audiences across the country with her memoir and its derivative one-woman show, PHD to PH.D.: How Education Saved My Life, which shares her journey from sex- trafficked teen to university professor. Her one-woman show performance, which includes music, monologue, and dynamic storytelling was voted a Critic's Pick award recipient for the 2017 Minnesota Fringe Festival:
She has had her original music placed in television shows such as FOX’s series “STAR.”

As a survivor of sex trafficking, an educator, and an artist, Dr. E spreads her message of self-love, healing and empowerment. Through her non-profit organization, Education Foundation for Freedom, she provides educational and financial support to women and girls. Music and performance give Dr. E ultimate joy and she uses this universal language to inspire!
